The Late Summer Meltdown starts at Pen Park and follows parts of the Rivanna Trail on single-track and double-track trails. The out-and-back course has some rolling hills and flat grassy sections, and is not very technical. Total elevation gain is 416 ft. The race is open to all interested racers, runners, and walkers. The Late Summer Meltdown is the fourth and last race of the Charlottesville Summer Trail Running Series. Prizes will be awarded to top finishers and points will be awarded to Charlottesville Trail Running Series runners, cumulative time scoring, based on their place at the finish.
Race fee covers post-race BBQ and banquet. At the banquet, we will present overall Series awards to cumulative top finishers in all 4 races. Participants that pre-registered for the Series and completed all 4 races will receive a super-cool tech finisher shirt. Those that pre-registered and completed 3 races will receive a cotton t-shirt.

Note: The course and venue are subject to change due to construction in the area, especially near the turnaround.
Entry Fee: $15 adults, $10 kids 12 and under, $10 for CATs members.

As of now we are planning to have race day registration ($20 adults, $15 kids 12 & under, no CAT discount) unless we decide we are at the capacity for the venue. If you signed up for the Summer Trail Running Series, you are automatically registered for this race. Just pick up your bib at the registration table, and your shirt if this is your 3rd or 4th race of the series completed. Note: Shirts are only given to those who registered for the series, since the cost of the shirt is included in that fee.

Pen Park is located at the northeast corner in the city of Charlottesville, off East Rio Road at Pen Park Road. There are several parking lots for the different sections of the park. From the Downtown Mall: From the northeast end of the Mall, take Park Street north onto East Rio Road and turn right onto Pen Park Road and follow it through the gate. From Route 250 and Route 29: Take Route 250 east to the exit ramp to Park Street, turn left and follow Park Street onto East Rio Road and turn right onto Pen Park Road and follow it through the gate. Once you are inside the park: To reach the picnic shelter #2 and the race start, turn left before the tennis courts and proceed to the parking area. There will be three picnic shelters on your left, the middle one is reserved for the race. Parking: Ample parking next to the picnic shelters. Please do not park on the grass off the side of the road, there are “No Parking” signs.
