The Harry Landers Memorial Day gathering is a low-key, 20+ mile trail run (with shorter options) that starts and ends at Sugar Hollow parking. We run up the North Fork Moormans River Road/trail (towards the smaller, family-friendly swimming hole) to the Appalachian Trail (5 miles). This would be a great place for folks wanting a 10-miller to turn back. Some may run up to Blackrock Summit for incredible views before heading back for a 12+ miler instead. Those interested in the entire 20 run south on the AT to Wildcat Ridge/Rip Rap trail for a spur run and swim in the SNP’s super secret swimming hole, around mile 9, and then back to the parking lot via the AT to Turk Branch and South Fork Moormans.

After the run, we enjoy a post-run potluck in the parking area. If you want to hike a bit, you can arrive earlier, walk up to the Blue Hole swimming hole on the South Fork Moormans River road/trail, and catch others as they run down from Turk Branch.

This run is geared for all levels of trail experience. NO ONE is left behind, and we run at a conversational pace and power hike/walk all the uphills. Water will be planted along the course, but you should plan to bring about 40 ounces if it is really hot.

If you are interested in learning about the beautiful trail system just 20 minutes west of town, hanging out with good friends and meeting new ones, this run is for you! Please feel free to email the CATs with any questions. Happy Trails!

P.S. Wondering why we call it the Harry Landers Special? Ask Harry.🙂
